sitting in a sea of white. colourless forms emerge from the sky. I pink hue lies somewhere underneath all of the violent nothingness. I look around and see nothing but whiteness. The crunch under my feed alludes to green which may be somewhere underneath all of the violent nothingness.
I look around and see a world of winter. There is a hint of life, a tint of sun, but I cannot see it with my senses right now. That hint of life breeds faith. That faith keeps me walking on. That faith leads to hope, and that hope is my strength. |

I've sort of fallen apart over the past couple weeks. The seams slowly split and the fabric of reality split. I fell and fell into an infinitely black hell. I was lost. Wandering around in circles. Confused. Alone. Rejected. Lost.
I've fallen so infiniately far that I've landed on the ground that I started. The carpet is familiar. The table is familiar. I know I've been here but it's been so long since I've felt the ground that it seems nearly impossible that I'm back on this earth.
I only expect a few to understand.
I have to start all over. In that is a vague glimpse of hope. Of optimism. Of possibility and opportunity. In that is a vague glimpse of freedom from all that which bound me. But in this moment, there is an incredible sense of loss.
I'm holding things together now, stiching the velvet seems of reality back together. Watching the starry skies and nebuli clouds of space dissapear behind the hard confines of walls and furniture, pavement and gravity.
Today is a new day, and the future is a new future. In it, I know not what it holds. |

Things went pretty well in london. I dropped a clean set, which was a huge confidence booster. I was nervous about using techs as I'm so used to my ttx1s. Note to anyone looking at decks - buy the industry standard to save yourself a few years of your life in worry.
Honestly - the set that I dropped was safe - nothing more and nothing less. It was clean and on point, but it wasn't mindblowing. I wasn't dancing around, cause it was my first spot outside of an environment that I created, but that was perfect. I never lost a mix, and I was comfortable. Felt really good. I got the gear after the first mix (but when I dropped my second record the fader was set to cut sharp because the guy scratched at the end of his set.)
I'm feeling good tho. The track that I just finished writing is the best piece of music that I've ever put out. I'm really advancing in learning software. I'm happy with everything that is happening. But honestly one thing that is discouraging me is violence and womanizing. Fuck testosterone. I'm sick of it and it makes me want to drop out of dnb scene. I still love the music tho. That's #1 |

Tomorrow I'm spinning my first serious gig in London.
I was a little anxious at first, but now I'm just excited. I've refined a better way to beatmatch that's "Safe" so even if the monitoring is poor, I know where the tracks are if they start to drift off.
Very very hyped up! I'm happy with how I've decided to go about music as a career - with passion and without stress. I'll never be serious about DJing and producing, which is why I think it will work out better. I'll be there because I love the music and I want to share it. I'll be making it not because of some deadline or need to put food on the table, but because I really enjoy the creative process and I find it very challenging and satisfying as a hobby.
I've got a career aside from music which will start to take off very shortly as well, which will provide me with a more than suitable wage while I can persue my love of dnb on the side.
It's actually happening too! I never meant to start spinning publicly. But I've got two spots to spin in the next 10 days. |

Enjoy! The webspace is a bit shitty, so you may have some problems downloading it. Streaming seems to consistently work okay... I don't know - just try grabbing it in a few different ways. It'll work eventually. |

| Feeling a bit better |
[Dec. 3rd, 2006|08:22 pm] |
Spent a bunch of the day re-arranging my studio space. Dual display again> works really well.

Had a really good weekend. Went out friday night and spun at my buddy Ty's on some really crappy decks. Made a total fool of myself, but whatever - reminded me that I still have a lot of work to do. So I'm going to try spending some time on those decks.
Saturday after work I carted my setup to Peteborough for a houseparty. They were really prepared. Put cardboard down all over the entire house's floor. Ty and I setup the decks and started pumping tunes promptly. The volume went up and and up, and we had some really good crowds dancing (remember, this is peteborough we're talking about. One or two people is a good crowd dancing).
A bunch of people came from Ajax. There were some people obviously influenced by hip-hop culture there. My buddy Sean asked me if I had a mix. I always mean to bring a mic, and this time I did. He told me these guys were amazing MCs, so we started passing the mic around and WOW. A couple of these guys were fucking amazing. Really made me move.
Seriously expanded my circle of friends over the weekend. I met a ton of people that I see at school all the time, but never talk to. Now straight up - I probably know twice as many very fun people. Met a fun check named Kat toward the end of the night who was really digging the Jungle. Asked for a CD and noted several tracks that she really liked. Always good to see someone really into the music.
All in all, wish a few more people showed up, but I had a fucking wicked time and spun records/danced for 6 hours straight, which was a well needed rinse out. I feel brand new today. |

Lightbulb went off in my head the other day regard the remix compo.
Everyone I play the loop I've layed down complain about the vox, so I've really listened to them and decided what I'm going to do. The first issue is the tuning. They're sung way out of tune, so I've gots to fix that first. I can't believe i'm doing it, but I'm fucking downloading plugins on DIALUP :-P
SO I can tune it with antares auto-tune, and then give it some flavor with the vocal plugins i've got kicking around.
THen I'm going to really dis-assemble it in live. Rip it right up - just tear it apart. And use it as a texture, or something more elemental rather than an up-front vocal line. This way it's still suitable for entry into the compo, and I love vocals, because they really finish the mix with that complex timbre and sonic structure that really just gives a very organic and finished sound to the overall mix. Process slightly with just a sprinkle of verb, and maybe a big long delay first (but maybe keep it dry, or automate the delay)
That should do nicely. Then I need to spend some time on an intro, buildup, drop, mid-structure, outtro and then comb it over a few times, maybe with some restructuring. With all of the homework I have due, it should only take me a fucking month to finish. *GAH* just gotta make sure I'll meet the deadline. Wanted to make a quick post just to jot that down for myself, incase I don't get to work on it for anotheroweek, although I'm going to probably finish my homework for tonight, and then dedicate an hour or so to play. |

| Happy producer - updated sketch |
[Nov. 20th, 2006|11:47 pm] |
Didn't realize what time it was! Got stuck in Cubase!
Feel like I"m really starting to be a capable dnb producer! Very happy and proud! *gleams!* I know I'm no professional artist, but I've really been enjoying producer over the last month or so, and feel like I've made a lot of headway and learned alot.
Anyways, here is an update of that sketch that I had posted previously
Going in a way different direction thank was previously posted. It's a bit more me I think. Looses some of the jazziness of goes for a bit deeper feel. Thru a renegade snare sample in there :-P Probably will ditch it tho for various reasons.
Still so rough, but it's got that feel now. Bass need me to play with the mod wheel. Got the band pass hooked up to it now, so I can make the bass bark on command. It's a pretty flat reese right now, but sounds good - not too invasive or anything.
I like it, and I think if I spend a bunch of time with this track and really develop it, it could definately be a serious contender in the compo. And I would win... a hard wearing dubplate with my own track on it! That's cool! Not a huge prize, but still very very awesome!

Took some time to learn cubase before school. Really excited! It's the best for sure. The midi routing/handling is premium, and very simple once you get your head around how the channels hook up to VSTs. But it makes handling multi-channel VSTis such as Kontakt extremely simple.
I made some little loop of music in it, just trying to learn how to put it all together, with audio clips, and midi clips connected to multiple channels of Kontakt.
Here it is, a little bit clownstep/jumpup with a dirty jazz feel. Really rough around the edges tho!
